South Africa has brought a case before the International Court of Justice, asking it to determine whether or not Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinians in Gaza.
As reported by BBC, South Africa has accused Israel of committing acts that can lead to the destruction of a substantial part of the Palestinian ethnic and racial group.
In response, Israel has rejected South Africa’s accusations of genocide. In a statement Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, declared that Hamas were the ones who would commit genocide against the Israelis if they had the power to do so.
“No, South Africa, it is not we who have come to perpetrate genocide, it is Hamas. It would murder all of us if it could,” he said.
He explained that the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have been fighting the war with morality in the fore front. He outlined measures the force had taken to ensure civilian life was protected, for example, aborting air strikes when civilians were in the target, dropping flyers warning civilians to leave areas that were targeted for bombings, and even calling civilians on their phones to warn them to leave targeted areas.
It has been reported that South Africa is asking the ICJ to force Israel to immediately stop its military operations in Gaza.
