A Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police and Special Adviser on Security to Oyo State Governor, Fatai Owoseni has disclosed the existence of an illicit mining market in Ibadan that is predominantly occupied by Chinese individuals. He highlighted that when authorities, whether police or state apparatus, attempt operations there, they are presented with approvals supposedly obtained from the federal government. He noted how Governor Seyi Makinde’s collaboration with the Federal Government led to the delegation of powers, resulting in the establishment of an International Gemstone market across four locations in Nigeria. He revealed that as a result of this advocacy, Ibadan was designated as one of the locations to host a Gemstone International market.
He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”There is an illegal mining market in Ibadan that is populated by the Chinese. And when you go there that you want to do an operation either as a police or state apparatus, they will show you approval which they have gotten from the federal government. And I want to tell you that it is the kind of engagement that Governor Seyi Makinde had with the Federal Government that even made them to dissolve some power to say that an International Gemstone market will be created in four locations in Nigeria. And because of the push, they gave Ibadan one International market.”
